I am trying to figure out the name of a children's book that was out at least 20 years ago. Help!?

It was some type of story that had to do with an animal that eats snakes?!?





He lived in a garden and was a nice animal. In the story you don't ever hear of him eating a snake....





I think it is something like laffy taffy or something like that. Please help, it is driving me nuts.
