I remember my 5th grade teacher showing our class a very unique book; each page had a different picture that had something strange or surreal about it. I remember it being very dark and mature for a children's book. Each picture had something strange and unnatural going on; it had a very "twilight zone" feel to it. I remember one of the pictures was a bridge that went on forever and never ended. I think the idea was for the reader to create a story to go along with the picture. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
Does anyone know the name/author of this children's book?
I would be interested to know the title too! It sounds great.
Reply:Sounds interesting.
Reply:I agree with the above answer. I think it's "The Mysteries of Harris Burdick" by Chris Van Allsburg. Here's a website with many of the pictures for you to compare to your memory: http://hrsbstaff.ednet.ns.ca/davidc/6c_f...
Reply:Try 'The Mysteries of Harris Burdick" by Chris Van Allsburg. It sounds like the book you are looking for, it is introduced as a series of illustrations with a caption %26amp; title that belonged with stories that were never supplied for to the publisher - the pictures are very moody and thought inspiring! (there is a pic of a bridge/railway track with a cart? on it leading into the mist, a girl about to cut into a glowing pumpkin, birds coming out of wallpaper, two caterpillars on a girls hand, a river with a harp, a small door in a basement etc.)
