Why do people tattoo their child's names on themselves?

my military son-in-law tattooes his wife and kids names on himself so he feels near them when he is deployed.

Why do people tattoo their child's names on themselves?
i think it's sweet.

what i dont like is the fact that my friend's dad only tattooed her name on him so he could remember her name. he wound up spelling it wrong too.

now that's just sad.......
Reply:To show how much they love their children. Did you see the man with 20 children? it was a documentry on last night and he had all twenty names on his back in a tree.
Reply:Well not being a fan of tattoos at all it baffles me.

However, i guess some parents like to show tattoos honouring their kids.
Reply:It is better than tattooing a man's name on yourself. I think it depends on how many children you have.
Reply:bad memory.
Reply:It's much better than tattooing a lover's name. 2D
Reply:its better to do that then a very stupid "skeleton" design,.
Reply:fools me. i have no idea
Reply:to show there love an devotion to them =]
Reply:Obsession. They love them TOO much and do stupid things...
Reply:love makes people do stupid things :-)

Adoption: Did you change your child's/children's name(s)?

My sister and brother changed their childs name when they got him. The mothers big plan was to leave the baby at the hospital so she just randomly picked a name for the birth certificate. They changed his name to something that wouldnt get him beat up in high school and that flowed well with their last name.

Adoption: Did you change your child's/children's name(s)?
We did not change our son's first name, but we did change his middle name. We chose to do this not to "strip" him of his identity but rather to allow him to start fresh. Our son came from a neglectful situation and we were concerned that the middle name he had would be a reminder of that as he became older and learned of his situation. We chose to change that name, with the full intention that when he is old enough to understand, we will share all that info with him and if chooses to change his name, we will do everything we can to help him do that.
Reply:My husband and I will be adopting my nieces in the near future formally.

My eldest desperately wants to change her first name, but I personally do not feel it's a good idea. I understand, but she's just 8. I don't want to allow her to change her birth name and later have her regret it.

What we will probably do for her and her sister is allow them to choose their own new middle names if they would like to, or add an additional middle name and they can decide what they'd like to be called as a common name.

I think it's very wrong to force a name change (except for last names of younger children) on an adopted child who's old enough to respond to it. A name is so much a part of who we are and our identity, and taking that away from a child completely is very tragic.
Reply:no,

But I was a foster child for 13 years and up for adoption a few times.

so I thought a lot about it a lot.

I greatly disagree with the person who said it is wrong to take away a childs name and give them an americanized one.

I definately would have changed mine if I had aquiecesed and gotten adopted.

My name would have blended better with my new last name and fit in with my new siblings names. it also was a play on my birth name. so it would have honored both sets of parents
Reply:My oldest daughter recieved a new name. At the time of adoption she had only one name (international adoption) and it as a very ethnic name. We felt that it was "too ethnic" for a child that was not going to be raised in the environment she was born into. We changed it to an ethnic name for her home country but one that was not overly ethnic sounding for her to be raised with in Canada.

Our youngest daughter naturally received a new last name when she was adopted and while we kept her first name we did modify it slightly. We have 3 "official" documents for her each with a slightly different first name depending what state her birth parents were in when the completed the forms. (She had been apprehended by DSS at the hospital as an infant). One of those names was just one first name, one was a two part name and one was the same name only hyphenated. All we did was keep the one first name and drop the hyphenated portion.
Reply:Yes, but I will warn you, it was a hard decision, and we do feel good about it now, but struggled with it. Most people will tell you we stripped them of their identities, but we decided to move their first names to the middle names and then move give them new first names, but they can be called by whatever name they want. They agreed to this, not just to please us because it is an important part for children who have been severely neglected and abused too feel like a new beginning, without taking fully from their past.

So that is what we did, and maybe in 20 years I will be wrong but I don't think so.
Reply:i was never legally named before my adoption. so my adopted name is my first legal name.

i am a great advocate of keeping names. i completely understand changing last names, but first name-i dont think it should be done. ESPECIALLY in international adoptions. those children lost their country, heritage. the only thing they have left is their names. they deserve to keep that.
Reply:First name: No

Middle name: Yes

Last name: Yes

We have an open adoption and my daughter knows what her full given name is. When she is in deep trouble I call her by all her names which sounds something like : "Jessie Marie Becker Noelle Harris, what is this green stuff on the walls?"
Reply:I've never adopted, but I have to bust in on this one...

My neighbor fostered three kids: Roy, Melanie and I can't remember the other boy's name. They were school-aged. When she adopted them she re-named them Lance, Luke and Leta. It always bothered me.

Aside from the annoying alliteration and the fact that they sound like redneck names (sorry if I offended anyone named those names) it URKED me that kids that have been called one name for 10+ years had to up and change their name. So weird.
Reply:At 18 I had a little girl. I picked the family that was to adopt her at birth. I did it privately after trying an agency. They came to all of the doctor visits and took care of me the best way they know how. When the time came to deliver, they were there on one side of the bed, and my folks on the other side. When she was born she held her first and cut the cord. They named her. She was hers.

In my situation it worked, in others I couldn't tell you.
Reply:You know, my adoptive mother changed my name when I was a baby. As an adult now, I can't understand why she would have wanted to.

I asked her about it once, she claimed that because I was part of this New family I deserved a new name. Also, because I am Indian and born with a traditional Indian name, my adoptive mother re-named me to giving me a more American name as she raised me here.

No hard feelings, I just don't entirely understand her thought process. :)
Reply:Not their first names. The children chose middle names (that wasn't a custom in their home country) and we tacked on our surname at the end.

Names go:

(Unchanged first name) (Chosen Americanized Middle name) (Unchanged birth surname) (American surname).
Reply:My parents weren't told that I had been given a name. I found out what it was the other day and my parents were really angry that no one had told them that I had a name. However, since my original name is a total trashy stripper name, I'm okay with not having kept it.
Reply:although i have never adopted children a close family friend of mine has and with one child she adopted her when she was just a few months old and she name her.. and the 2nd child he ws four and they kept his name but then when he was 5 or 6 i think they chnaged it..
Reply:my a parents kept me and my twin brothers first and middle names. Obviously, our last names were changed. I found out from my bio dad(when we still had contact) that he named us. I'm rather happy about that.
Reply:my mom has 5 adopted kid me being one nd she never changed our names not even our last she just added her last name on to our but she changed my younger sisters middle name because she already had another daughter with that middle name
Reply:We made their first names their middle names.
Reply:My daughters were two and three when we adopted them. We decided to change their names first names in spelling and gave them our last name.
Reply:It depends upon you. There is no compulsion for the same.
Reply:I named my son, his first name was changed, middle name kept

My friends just had a baby named Laurel and I thought it would be cute to get her baby / kids books with characters named Laurel. Do you know of any? I'm not interested in the ones where you pay to put the name in - I'm looking for real books that already used the name. Thanks!

Can anyone name this children's book?

I remember reading a book when I was in elementary school in which the main character was one of three brothers in an immigrant family. This was during the turn of the 20th century. Two main things I remember from this book:

1. One of the brothers got mumps and his other two brothers were made to get into bed with him so that they would all get mumps at the same time

2. When one of the boys acted up, his punishment was "silent treatment," no one was allowed to talk to him

I think one of the boys was named Sven but I'm not sure. Can anyone help??

Do you like my children's name?

Lucas Miguel

Skylar Grace

Avalynn Claire

When I was in the hospital a couple of days ago I couldn't decide on a middle name for Avalynn. After a while I chose Claire but one of my friends said "You have taste in names". This has been on my mind ever since got out of the hospital. Are they really that bad?

Do you like my children's name?
Hi There,

Well I really like Avalynn, it reminds me of my mom Evelyn, and her sister Clair (funny hey). To me Grace is beautiful,

Skylar is cute (but I think of Minnie Driver in Good Will Hunting and this geeky nerd I used to work with sorry, but I still think its cute). Miguel is cool, and I've always been partial to Lucas, just to me a good strong boys name.

I think you have done well, nothing that is going to sound stupid on an 80 year old, nothing to hard to say or spell, not outlandish or too popular. Just good names IMHO

And yes, I agree with the others what are her kids names!!! To me that was a cruel thing to say when you just had a baby.

I'm thinking she wouldn't be my friend for long.

Don't worry there will always be one in the crowd. I named

my son Darius Evan, and holy cow some of the comments!!
Reply:Maybe you don't have good taste in friends, LOL, your children's names are absolutely beautiful!
Reply:Lucas Miguel -Lucas is just OK as in Miguel but together they are odd

Skylar Grace -Skylar is such a hillbilly trailer park name it hurts me - right up their w Mikaya(in any spelling) and Grace is the new Marie - its every ones middle name

Avalynn Claire- Avalynn - reminds me of javelin - Ava would be nice - Claire is awful

Listen to your friend
Reply:I might not use them myself, but they are nice and perfectly respectable names. I think Lucas is a great name, and I bet your girls names fit them perfectly. At the very least, you didn't give them names that sound like they will grow up to be pole dancers or welfare recipients, I can't see anything to be made fun of, no funky spellings or puns that will cause them aggravation or look weird on a resume later in life... Frankly that is a lot more then many parents these days. I don't think you have anything to be concerned about in your choices.

And any "friend' who tells someone a day or two postpartum that they don't have good choice in names, is not a friend I'd want to have.

Avalynn Claire-Beautiful, i love it. the first word that comes to my mind beautiful, smart, young lady. I love it.

Don't forget, you named your children what You wanted to name them, that was nobody elses decision!!! As long as You and Your husband like the names, don't let what other people think bother you!!!

I would think of a boy if not for the Grace part, but I'm sure little Skylar will prove to be as unique as her name... Does anyone know the name of this children's book?

It's about a pig?

All I remember is the part that said she would wake up every morning and look in the mirror and say something along the lines of "Hello, beautiful!" or something to that affect.

Anyone?

Does anyone know the name of this children's book?
It could be I Like Me by Nancy Carlson. The narrator of that picture book is a pig.
Reply:There is a book called Bears Always Share and it has a part in it with a pig where she's very vain.........but i can't help you if the book is ALL about the pig.

I make handmade couture children's clothing and accessories and am opening an online boutique. It will be classic style clothing made from high quality fabrics and attention to detail. Heirloom quality clothing. Hair bows and infant shoes to match bloomers and pantaloons. But all of it will have a modern spin on it. I need an original name for it. Thanks all

Looking for wooden beads of children's heads.Beads are a boy or girl head that is personalized w/child's name.

These beads were on a grandmother necklace that my daughter had purchased for me in California. Each bead was shaped in the form of a boy or girl , and could be personalized with their eye, hair color etc. and then have the child's name on them. The beads were on a cord. These were purchased in a craft shop in a Southern California mall. This was about 10 years ago and the shop is no longer there. I can paint the beads myself but do not know where to purchase them. I think they are made of wood but it might be some other material. I now have a new granddaughter and would like to add a bead for her.in her likeness. Does anyone know what I am talking about?

Do you remember a children's book named Chalky?

Do you remember a children's book named Chalky?
Yes, it was by John Wyndham - it was spelled "Chocky," Good book.

How do I access my children's accounts on my computer? They have separate log in names than me?

As I turn on the computer, we have 3 separate user accounts. They have limited access but I need to go in and make changes on their accounts. How can I do it without logging out of my user name since I am the 'administrator' or how do I log in on their account as 'administrator'? Thanks for your help!

How do I access my children's accounts on my computer? They have separate log in names than me?
I'm pretty sure you can't.
Reply:my mom knows all of my and my siblings' passwords. We just keep them away from eachother.

I'm sure there is a way under the 'administrator' account to access the others, but your best bet is to just have a list of their passwords at hand if at all possible if you want to check up on them like my mom does for us.

I know she has changed our passwords to keep us out at times too.
Reply:go to ours and click on the accounts control panel and then click a on button that that says delete otehpaenls so u have just one.
Reply:you need passwords
Reply:You can't, but you are the parent, so tell your children that you need to go into their accounts and make changes.

If they balk about the idea, then take their computer privileges away. You are in charge!
Reply:Log into your account and go to the control panel and click on accounts and addministrators..... if you are the administrator you can simply view their accounts hope it helps...:)
Reply:It depends what changes you're gonna make, but when I had a limited account, my big bro was the admin and he'd do this (Windows XP):

1. go to Control Panel

2. User Accounts

3. (whatever account you need to change)

4. Do account changes from there

Hope this helps :)
Reply:what make you think you have the right to access their accounts?
Reply:it depends on what you need to do. If you need to install software, all you need to do is do it under your name. if you need to do something administrative where their account needs to be an administrator account, go to user accounts under the control panel. Change their account to administrator . go in and do what you have to do. then simply just change it back to limited account when you have completed your task.
Reply:You can log in but unless you know their password you are out of luck. it doesn't matter if you are administrator or not,as I from experience tried to get into my cheating wifes account but could not because of the lack of her password. Good luck
Reply:If you are trying to do this behind their backs then DON'T if not just ask your kids they sude know
Reply:Have you asked your kids?

The parent-child relationship can be a wonderful thing when it is based on open communication, trust, and cooperation among many others.
Reply:stop being nosey lol i was joking your a strict mum ill tall you my password if you want
Reply:I don't think you can log on their account as admin-

istrator as they are 3 separate accounts. Call

Yahoo customer service, let them know that you

are the primary account on your computer and

explain to them your situation. Or, you can call

your internet service provider and do the same.

It's probably the same as your phone company.

They should be able to help.

Take care and Happy New Year!
Reply:I believe you would do these steps:

1. Click "start"

2. Click "settings"

3. Find the "control panel"

4. Once it is open, click on "user accounts" or something like that (my computer is Italian)

5. And then there should be all you need. Hopefully. If it is not successful then I believe that you can not make in-depth changes to their accounts, you know, like user name and privacy settings, only what type of account they are and what they can do, and there are only two options for that, either "administrator" or the other one that is limited that they have.

Does anyone know the name/author of this children's book, possibly from the late 1970s?

It had a girl and a boy character, and on every page there was a new scene, like a building, boat, plane etc. all built from building blocks. I can't really remember what happened in it, if anything because I was very small, or the name of the book or author, but it was a library book which I loved, I saw it in the library at Mere Green maybe 1980-ish. I remember they both had black hair, the girl's hair was in a bob which was very wide. I think it had only a small amount of colour in it.

If anyone could tell me what it is, I would be very grateful, as I would love to have a copy.

I remember the boy and girl were quite small in relation to the pictures, and I don't think it had much in the way of text either, it was aimed at pre-school children, and I don't think it was part of a series.

It definitely wasn't Topsy and Tim. I don't think it was Mark and Mandy, the drawings were cartoony, with flat colours, without much shading.

Apologies if you previously answered/read this question.

The best thing to do is what I did. My book was from the 1950's and I still did it!!

Go to EBay, look under children's books and then whizz through the titles and pictures. The name will probably leap out at you! Mine did! All I could remember was that the cover was yellow - and that was it! The second I saw the name though everything went click.

A friend's grandfather passed away and so did his mother. Somehow the house was put in his children's name.?

Could he keep the house in the children's name and get home insurance or does he need to have it in his name?

A friend's grandfather passed away and so did his mother. Somehow the house was put in his children's name.?
you'll need to check to be sure, but i'd think he can get insurance.

you do need to be sure that the ownership and relationship are stated correctly on the policy though.
Reply:first I'm sorry to hear about the tragedy. ... you can get home insurance any time. actually it's a good that you do that right away, although, make saure you get a lawyer so there is no misunderstandings on what is legally acceptable for the home. Believe that there could be arguments over who gets what, and whos going to pay for what and so on. It's best to talk with your family about it, but often times that slips through the cracks when everyone is greiveing in their own ways at the time. Good luck :-) my prayers are with you.

Name of a children's book about motorcycle riding mouse...?

I am looking for the name of a book I read as a child, It is all about a little mouse who rides on a toy motorcycle. In the book the mouse makes the sound pppbbbbbbbb to make the bike go. What do you think of my unborn child's name?

My girlfriend is 6 months pregnant. We are expecting a boy. We are thinking of names and one of the names we came up with is Lee'Angel. It is a mixture of her name and my name. What do you think of the name? If you like it, do you have any ideas of different was to spell the name.

What do you think of my unborn child's name?
Lee is fine for a boy, and Angel is ok for a boy. Angel works especially well if you or your girlfriend are Latino (Angel sounds great in Spanish) But put them together and everyone will be thinking you had a girl.

You may want to expand your search into names other than yours and your girlfriends.
Reply:I'm sorry. I don't care for it either, but my opinion doesn't matter. You have the choice to name your little boy anything you like.

I think it sounds too ethnic and feminine.

If you and your friend agree that you want your names combined to make his name, then go for it. If he just gets Lee, it won't be too bad for a guy.

Most important, I hope you have a very happy baby!
Reply:Please don't use an apostrophe in your kid's name.

All the people I know with apostrophes in their names absolutely hate it.

Lee is an OK first name. But Angel? Don't you think that's a little bit too feminine for a boy? Please don't do that. If you must have both names then do Lee Angel. No apostrophe.
Reply:I like it but I think it sounds like a girls name, You don't want your lil guy to get picked on in school do you? How about making his first name Angel and his middle lee. Because you didn't specify which part of the name was yours, U might just want to name him after you and then leave the other name as his middle name. Congrats on the baby anyway!
Reply:i think your son will get a ruff time at school if you call him lee'angel. children are very cruel these days. lee is great its a very nice name indeed, but if you love your son don't put angel on the end of it.
Reply:Like others, i think you should reconsider. Pick a strong name that better suits and represents who you are.

Naming kids is hard. Think of another name with a mix, what about a middle name for you? or what is your g/f family name?
Reply:I think Angel is a bit tacky...what if he grows up to be atheist? It could happen!

Use a form of "Angel" as a middle name. The apostrophe looks bad.

Lee is good. What about:

Lee Angelo

Lee Antonio

Lee Andrew

Congrats!

xx
Reply:I don't like it...sorry. Lee is a fine first name for a boy and Angel can be the middle name (not sure if that is what you meant?) but it sounds terrible as a combined first name.
Reply:I hate it. It's very feminine and names with apostrophes are just plain tacky.
Reply:I really like it... ITs something different
Reply:Capital letter in the middle of the word AND an apostrophe?

Doubly ugly!
Reply:advice is you should have got married to her before doing this. And I think the name is a little bit too uncommon, maybe lee'an to make it shorter
Reply:Lee'Angel is wayyyy to feminine!!

No offense.

Good luck!
Reply:Lee'Angel is too feminine... maybe trade out Angel for Ansel and stick Lee as a middle name:

Ansel Lee
Reply:Lee'Angel sounds like a girls name. Lee is male so is Angel, but together it doesn't work. Sorry.
Reply:I dont like it sorry. Why don't you just name the baby Angel...I love that name for a boy
Reply:You're kidding, right? It's awful.
Reply:lee'angel? seems like a girl name ,

I can't remember the name of a children's book series that I used to read when I was younger. Can anyone help

Okay, so here's the deal: When I was younger I used to read a lot of children's books and most of the books I read were part of a series (and I'm pretty sure the one I'm asking about was part of a series, too). It was about two kids, a boy and a girl, that were spies and/or solved mysteries. The only thing that really sticks out in my mind about it is that one of the kids (I think it was the girl) had a photographic memory and that's what they used to help solve the mystery/crime. For the life of me, I just can not remember what the book or the series was called and it has been driving me crazy for a really long time. I can't even remember the names of the characters. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

I can't remember the name of a children's book series that I used to read when I was younger. Can anyone help
Cam Jansen! Her nickname is Cam and her best friend's name should be Eric. I think that they are still being published, because I can find them at my library.
Reply:No idea...there's a lot of books like this...I'd visit or call the library where you used to check out the books. They might still be on the shelves.
Reply:Cam Jansen is the name of the series. Her friends nicknamed her Camera Jansen and shortened it to Cam. I don't remember much about them, either. Hope this is the series that you are looking for!!!!
Reply:could it be the "can you solve the mystery?" series? the characters were named amy and hawkeye. he was the one with a photographic memory, i think. the author is m. masters.
Reply:The only child mystery books I remember were the Encyclopedia Brown ones. I'm guessing Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys are ruled out, huh?
Reply:I don't remember how to spell it correctly but is it Cam Jensen ?

What's the name of the traditional children's toy....?

It has a row of flat wooden squares arranged in a line, the blocks are held together by ribbons that weave back and forwards down the blocks. You hold the top block and let the rest dangling downward and when you tip the top block forward, it knocks each succesive block down.

Can you name any disabled character's on children's television?

If so what programme are they from and what role do they play? And do you think they are represented in a postive or negative way?

Can you name any disabled character's on children's television?
There's a few, here are the details of the ones I can think of - they may not all be current though.

I know there was a woman who was deaf on Sesame Street but I can't remember her name - this is when I watched it though which is about 15 years ago

There's a woman on Balamory who's in a wheelchair

There used to be a girl with a physical disability in Tracy Beaker who used a walking frame as well

They're the only ones I can come up with.

Sorry I can't give you names but the sites I can find don't have the names of the characters. For the balamory character you should be able to find out by watching the show. It's a British show
Reply:Not sure the age range you are looking for, but for older children, Malcolm in the Middle...Stevie is Malcolm's best friend (they are in the same accelerated class). He is a wheelchair user and has severe asthma. He is portrayed in a good light, and I never even thought about him being a wheelchair user until your question came up.

Sesame Street has a deaf adult, who teaches the monsters (and thus the children) signs. She is treated as being just like everyone else, just talking different.
Reply:I can't recall the character's name, but it's an animal on Franklin who has cerebral palsy. Very good show- positive.
Reply:A retired London wheelchair basketball player host a children television show. In London so I hear from watching the Paralympics. but i have not watched it.
Reply:Yes, I do know some and they are portrayed in a positive way. These characters are on children's Christian television programs.
Reply:Little Bill. Positive.
Reply:Barney has had disabled characters

there is a girl in a wheelchair in the Elmocize video
Reply:Yes a show called Balamory the character is Penny Pocket, she is played very positive way
Reply:yeah suzy sweet from me to shes the girl in the wheechair i think its great its learning younger children about disabilities
Reply:there fun to laugh at

What do/did you take into consideration when picking out your child's name?

I'm just curious as to what you take into consideration when choosing your child's name. Most of my friends were named after people, some after their fathers/mothers, some after Bible characters, and some after influential people.

Also, how important do you think it is to choose the "right" name for your child?

What do/did you take into consideration when picking out your child's name?
For me, the popularity of the name was a big consideration. I didn't want my daughter to be one of four or five Ashleys or Madisons in her class, always having her last initial tacked on to identify her. But I also didn't want something really wild or unusual that she'd constantly have to spell or explain to people. So my challenge was finding a familiar, traditional name that wasn't widely used. It was also important that the name flowed well with our last name.

Most parents put a lot of time and thought into choosing the "right" name for their child. They ask their friends and family for opinions, and they worry when people don't seem crazy about the names they're considering. They're afraid that if they choose the "wrong" name - one that others don't like - people will have a negative opinion toward their child. But here's the thing. Once that baby is born, she will "become" that name, and that name will become her. No one will give the name a second thought - they'll just see this adorable little person, and they'll love her no matter what her name is.

My best friend named her daughter Frances, and calls her Frankie for short. Now, I have to admit, when she first told me the name she'd chosen, my first thought was "Ugh, poor kid" (but of course I didn't say that). Well, that little girl turned out to be the cutest darn thing I've ever seen, and her name fits her perfectly. Now I LOVE that name, and I love that little girl.

The truth is, it really doesn't matter what you name your child, as long as it's something you like. Your child is going to be who she is no matter what she's called, and she and her name will blend together perfectly.
Reply:Choosing a name for your child is one of the most important things you do for them at first. The name you pick is what they'll be known by all their lives. It's silly how much of a fad name-giving has become as far as how creative you can make it. Giving a child a sensible name is best. What might be cute when they're a baby won't be so sophisticated or nice when they're older.

However, if you try to choose a name based on whether your child will get made fun of or not, don't bother. All kids can make fun of every name there is.

My husband and I used a family name for the middle name for our children but picked a sensible, strong first name that was uniquely their own. I really don't like it when families name their children after their parents--it creates confusion and seems to take away some sort of individualism in the child.

Our children are named: Westley Brady, Caleb Hansen, Travis Ives and Eliza Helen.

The boys' middle names are the maiden names of my husband's and my grandmothers (3 of them) and the girl's middle name is the first name of the 4th grandmother.

EDIT: While a lot of children don't like their names when they are growing up, often they grow to like them as adults. My name is very unique (Jenavee) and I HATED it as a child and even tried to shorten it to Jen when I was 12. It didn't stick, and I still have to spell my name and pronounce it to people. But now I love it and think it's very beautiful and different. I was named after a great-great-grandmother.
Reply:We had a couple of requirements when talking about baby names. We wanted the name to be identifiable as either a boy's name or a girl's name, not questionable or requiring the middle name to know the gender. It also needed to be able to be pronounced correctly when looking at it, and spelled correctly when spoken. I grew up with a last name that no one could pronounce correctly, and if I told them my name, I then had to spell it out. I've spent my entire life telling people how to spell my first name, so wanted to spare my children that. We also wanted a name that flowed nicely with our last name. In addition, we didn't want it to be so popular that they ended up being the fifth child with that same name in their first grade class.

As far as choosing the "right" name-how do you know that you have? A lot of children end up not liking their names as they grow up, so what is the factor? I like the names we gave both our children, and I hope they won't end up hating them.
Reply:I think we have to choose the right name for our children because a wrong name can be a lifelong burden.

We like to stick to traditional names with common spelling - most of you know how annoying it becomes when you have to spell out your name time and time and time over and still people get it wrong!

We also avoid names with strong meaning as it would be quite disastrous if they don't fit the personality of the child.
Reply:I do think it's important to choose a good strong name for your child. My husband and I chose Jeremiah David for our son's name. His family has a tradition that the first born sons have the initials JD so it made choosing a name kind of easier. My husband actually thought the name up and ran it by me for approval.

Reply:I didn't pick out my children's names. Because of legalities, I had generic "names" for their birth certificate, so at first they were named "Jane Marie Doe, John Jack Doe and John Jack Doe II."

As soon as they were able, they chose their own names. My daughter's chosen name is Christine Barbie Doll Princess. My boy's names are Jeff Truck Crayon and Green Froggie Pac Man. It is a common misconception that a last name has to be the same as a parents. It can be whatever you'd like. A name can be changed at the court house for a mere $40.
Reply:i decided that my daughters name was going to be Kylie when i found out i was pregnant. In the off chance she had been a boy she woud have been Taylor Ray. the middle name she got was dependant on what day she was born. If she had been born on july 17th she would be Kylie Ray after my grandpa (raymond John~7-17-1917), if she was born the 24th she would have been Kylie Anne after my stepdads sister who died when she was 29. and if she had been born on the 27th she was going to be kylie charlottw after my step grandfather. if it was none of those days but before the 20th she was going to be kylie taylor after my grandaddy and if she was going to be born on none of the days but after the 20th she was going to be kylie belle. well she was born the 22nd. and she is kylie belle.

her name means boomerang beautiful. i think it fits. she is gorgeous and she always comes running back to mommy
Reply:I know it may sound odd, but as for my second child, when ,my now husband and I were just dating, I had a dream we married, and had a boy and named him Bryce. Well a year and a half later, that is what we did. I think everyones situation is different as for their reasons.
Reply:I think it's important. I chose my girls names because they are cute, unique, rolled off the tongue, went well with the last names and made me smile to hear the names.

It was important to me to give my kids a name that was not common. I don't think of my kids as common.
Reply:I think names are important but I didn't name my daughter after anyone in my family at least that I know of. The name I picked for her is a name that I had picked out when I was 13, even back then I knew I was going to have a little girl.
Reply:Well I made sure it didnt rhyme with the part of any body part, lol

I made sure it wasnt something kids would be cruel about. We picked Corbin b/c it was from our favorite movie and it wasnt too weird and not too common.
Reply:This is posted just on the off chance expert grandma revisits. Do your children still like there names? How old were they when they picked them? I don't agree with your method but it sure is entertaining.
Reply:How it sounds with the last name, If anybody else I know has that name, how many kids will probably have that same name.

I am trying to find out the name of a children's book that I read about 15 years ago. ?

The book was about a family that had many children. All the kids names began consecutively with the letters of the alphabet. Example: The first kid would be Alex, the next one Becky, the next one Cathy and the next one Dan, ect. (These names are just an example. I can't remember the actual children's names) I believe they also had a dog that traveled with them. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

"many Rosso children. Each are blessed with a somewhat unusual name, such as Bainbridge, Faustine, Dagwood, and Eberhard. Their mother started naming them using the letter A and working her way through the alphabet with each new child, ending up with 10 children, and 10 unusual names (except for Abigail of course).

When the Rosso family moves from New York City to a big farmhouse in New Jersey, they know it's the perfect time to convince their parents to let them get a pet.."

What is a good website 4 ideas on how 2 decorate those wood letters you spell out a child's name 4 their room?

The wooden letters come from Michaels or some other craft store and you spell out a child's name usually to put in their room on the wall. I want to decorate them in some way instead of leaving them as the plain white wood. I need ideas for this. Are there sites out there with ideas for this project?

What is a good website 4 ideas on how 2 decorate those wood letters you spell out a child's name 4 their room?
With all due respect,,, gads please don't take offense. I find this Q hard to believe.

GLUE might be the first step.../Glitter/"PAINT"/Cotton/ sequins/ smaller other letters/Wrapped ribbon, or metallic cord/ seashells/ thumbnail pictures/ etc etc etc
Reply:also try different types of patterened scrapbook paper. use an emery board to sand along edges then tear, easier than trying to trace/cut exactly. You could paint or stain first or leave it natural. Coordinate the paper to the room.
Reply:DIY DOC is right...you don't need a website to tell you how to do this. But you can always try a search for crafts...there's all kinds of crafting sites and books. One really neat way would be to let the kids decorate the letters...craft stores have an abundance of different things to decorate just about anything. Another great idea for kids rooms is to use chalk board paint. We just painted a 9" wide stripe all the way around my 16 yr old daughter's room and everyone, young and old, loves it. It runs about $20/quart and we only needed one quart to go around the entire 12x12 room. Just be sure to teach that only the black can be colored on! ;-))

It was back in the days....I dont remember when did it came out but I remembered when I was in elementry school I used to check that book out and that was in the late 80's and early 90's. Can a mother add her surname to her child's name without permission from the father?

My fiance's child's mother want to change the last name of the baby because she doesn't want his wife to have the same name as the child. What it comes down to and what I'm irritated about is that it puts him in the position of, if he wants his son to keep his last name AND keep the baby's mother happy, he can never get married. He's a reasonable person, tries to keep everything okay between them, and is an absolutely wonderful father. I know she has to have his permission to change the name, but can she add a name?

Can a mother add her surname to her child's name without permission from the father?
I do believe she would have to go in front of a judge and give a good reason for it
Reply:If the mother has full custody of the child, she can change it's name as many times as she wants. Adding a name is changing it. However, if the custody is shared, she can't do anything without the consent of both parents.
Reply:It varies by state but chances are she cannot get it changed without his consent if they have shared custody.

Changing and adding is in the same boat.
Reply:not after a year.
Reply:Adding a surname to the child's name IS changing it. As long as the parents share legal custody of the child (regardless of which parent has physical custody), the mother will require the father's consent to change the name, and vice versa.

You forgot another option: you don't have to take your fiance's last name when you marry him.

Then you and your fiance's child will not have the same last name, but your fiance and his child WILL. Also, nothing will have changed with the child, so the child's mother should be kept happy.

What is the process for legally changing a child's name?

I just want to add my maiden name to their middle names, but not hyphenate.

What is the process for legally changing a child's name?
In the US you can legally change a child's name for free until they reach the age of 2. Over the age of 2 you need to pay for name changes. It isn't that big of a deal, you only have to fill out and file paperwork at the county courthouse in either instance. Contact your local Social Services or Human services Dept. They should be able to help you and point you in the right direction to get the process started.
Reply:You must go through a judicial process to legally change a person's name. Consult an attorney licensed in your jurisdiction. It should not cost more than $1,000.
Reply:In general in the US a person may use any name he or she wants as long as he or she is not committing a fraud or hiding a crime. So, you can just add your maiden name to the child's name without having to go to court; especially as you indicate this will be an additional middle name.

If you want to go the court route, the procedure and the cost vary from state to state. The procedure is usually fairly straight-forward, filling out of forms and such. Nolo Press has How to Change Your Name books for some states, check Amazon.com.

Your local courthouse may have a law library which should include the forms needed, find the library, verify when its open, and ask the librarian.

In California the Courts have pre-packaged sets of the forms needed with instructions.

Contact your local Legal Aid and see if they can help.

If you don't want to do it yourself, call several attorneys and see what the going rate for fees and costs is.
Reply:social security office as i told you before...
Reply:you can call your child what ever you want to. the law says that as long as you dont use it illegally it is ok. you cannot change what is on the birth certificate.
Reply:You actually don't need to pay an attorney you can do it yourself. You need to go through the legal procedures before you go to Social Security and to the Department of Motor Vehicles because they need to see the approval by a Judge by law. They won't make these changes without the Court ordered approved petition. You go to Civil Court in your State and County where you live. They will give you the following papers needed to be filled out and processed. You need both husband and yourself consent, or permission of the baby's father to sign a certified copy of permission for the court to change your child's name by law. You need an original and copy of your and child's birth certificate, photo ID such as Driver's license or Passport, a marriage certificate if you are married, your husband's ID and or the father's baby's ID. Both you guys must be present by law. You have to give proof of where you live like a lease or a gas, electric or light bill. You need to advertise this in a newspaper that will print this change for a week and then you will get an affidavit of service by this newspaper to give back to the Judge. After the Judge OK's this and it is in the paper for a week, you can go ahead and make the changes to obtain a new birth certificate and ID and all further changes needed for their new name. I just got mine and my son's changed, so, I didn't want to pay an attorney's fee. This all cost approx $200 max.
Reply:Local courthouse is the first stop. In my state you have to file a petition for legal name change. Social security cannot do this until you have documentation of legal name change.
Reply:In England u can easily change a childs name as long as both parents agree, thirty mins in a solicitor's office and it's done!
